Mar 27 – AARP presentation – with the Caregiver Education Group

The presentation for March 27th at 1:30 is about AARP Resources & Services  and will be given by Jina Ragland, AARP Advocacy & Outreach Director.  AARP Nebraska is fighting to support the 195,000+ family caregivers who help make it possible for older Nebraskans and other loved ones to live independently and choose the right care at the right time; working to find common sense solutions to help make family caregivers’ responsibilities a little easier.
Held at Saint Paul UMC, 1144 M Street.  March 27 is a Tuesday. The meetings are held in Room 155 on the main level.  The presentation begins at 1:30pm.

This presentation will highlight the various caregiving bills introduced during the 2018 Nebraska legislative session.  In addition Jina will share about the Assisting Caregiver Transition Act passed in the Nebraska legislature in 2016.  The Federal RAISE act will also be explained.  An overview of resources, books,  and services available to caregivers through AARP will also be provided.  This presentation will provide very useful  information for all caregivers, family members, pastors/church members, friends, and neighbors as well as professional care providers.

In 2014 in Nebraska, about 195,000 family caregivers provided 182 million hours of uncompensated care, valued at $13.81/hour.  The economic value of their unpaid contributions was approximately $470 billion in 2013, up from an estimated $450 billion in 2009.  In Nebraska the value of unpaid contributions is estimated to be at $2.5 billion of care.

The Caregiver Education Group and Saint Paul UMC sponsor meetings for caregivers held the fourth Tuesday of each month at Saint Paul UMC, 1144 M Street.  The meetings are held in Room 155 on the main level.  The presentation begins at 1:30pm.  There is always time allowed for discussion and sharing after the presentation.  There is parking underneath the church.  You enter off 11th Street (between N & M Streets) right after the alley.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  We are pleased that Jen Wolf-Wubbels from Southlake Village, who is a member of the Lincoln Caregiver Education Group, brings yummy treats to the meeting each month.  Thanks so much, Jen.
