Community Supported Art (CSArt) returns to Lincoln for a second year with even more interest, energy and enthusiasm. Based on the Community Supported Agriculture model, Lincoln’s CSArt provides opportunity for local artist and art appreciator.

Nine artists have been panel-selected from a field of 45 applicants. Joining them are students from Lincoln High School’s art classes.  They will create a unique work for each of 50 art shareholders to be delivered at three distribution events throughout the season. Each art shareholder receives 10 original “art commodities” plus the opportunity to meet and interact with the artists who are commissioned to create the 2014 harvest of art.

Experiencing our local environs through visual aesthetic and touch is the theme that runs through much of the proposed art for 2014. From our state poet collaborating with her photographer husband to pair written word and image to fiber artists working with local materials to capture the flora and fauna of our unique prairie ecosystem, this year’s CSArt promises a homegrown experience reflective of our surroundings and the inspiration that springs from it.

Lincoln’s CSArt initiative is offered by the Lincoln Arts Council with exclusive sponsorship from Union Bank and Trust. It provides the ideal partnership of non-profit and local corporate leadership fulfilling the arts council’s mission to inspire and promote our creative community and to cultivate sustainable opportunities for resident artists.

Fifty shares of “art stock” are available for purchase. The cost is $400 per share which will be offered on a first come-first served basis. ($50 from each share sold benefits the Lincoln Arts Council with the remainder divided among the artists.)
Please call 402-434-2787 to confirm availability.  You can either stop by the Lincoln Arts Council office at 1701 South 17th street, suite 1A to purchase your share, or we can take a credit card payment over the phone.  Please note that shares will not be available online or by mail.

About CSArt

What is Community Supported Art? Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy seasonal food directly from local farms. With the same “buy-local” spirit in mind, we are pleased to bring Community Supported Art (CSArt) to Lincoln, to support local art, artists and collectors.

The goals of the CSArt program are to support artists and to encourage a community of local arts supporters. CSArt supports artists: in the creation of new work, to establish relationships with local collectors and patrons, and to participate in the launch of an exciting new model of art support and distribution. CSArt shareholder benefits include multiple works of art from local emerging and mid-career artists at a fantastic value! Additionally, CSArt shareholders have the opportunity to develop relationships with the local artists and art community, discover new artists, explore a variety of disciplines and support artists’ careers and a vibrant community.

CSArt is a three-year project with our funding partner, Union Bank & Trust Co.  LAC will also be developing strong partnerships with the local food industry, and other local vendors who we hope to have support the bumper crop portion of the program.
