How to travel safely in a foreign country

Let’s say you have always dreamed of visiting Rome. You finally saved the money, bought your tickets, and are ready for the trip of a lifetime. Here are a few helpful tips to use before and during your trip:

  • Before you leave, make a copy of your passport, credit cards and debit cards that you will be taking with you, and leave a copy with a trusted friend or family member.
  • Contact your bank and credit card provider to let them know the dates you will be traveling.
  • Contact your cell phone provider to let them know the dates you will be traveling.
  • Once you arrive, make sure to secure your valuables and extra cash in the safe in your room.
  • Travel in a group or with a trusted companion when possible.
  • Carry your money in a pocket that zips or buttons, or in a purse that is secured to your body. Many sites will not let you in with a backpack and they will not store it for you.
  • Do not carry your passport with you unless it is required in that particular country.

And most importantly, enjoy the sights and sounds of wherever your destination may be!
