Husker Alum Football Fridays Move

The Nebraska Alumni Association‘s Football Fridays are moving to Lincoln’s new entertainment district in the historic Haymarket. The event series will take place at the Railyard, southeast of Pinnacle Bank Arena, at 5 p.m. on the day before each Nebraska home football game.
The first of seven fall events is Aug. 30. A panel of Husker experts including Husker legend Tommie Frazier, Husker Sports Network’s Matt Davison, and local media will preview Nebraska’s season opener and answer fans’ questions about the team. Greg Sharpe of the Husker Sports Network will serve as emcee.
“We are thrilled to be the first event at the Railyard,” said Derek Engelbart, director of alumni relations at the Nebraska Alumni Association. “We think alumni and fans will enjoy the blend of Football Friday tradition with the celebration of Lincoln’s new entertainment district.”
The Alumni Association is celebrating the fifth year of Football Fridays, which drew alumni and fans from at least 36 states in 2012. The program for 2013 events will vary weekly, featuring a mix of live entertainment, music and special guests. Fans can expect appearances by former Husker football players, insight and analysis from local sports media, DJ Craig Estudillo and some Sports Nightly live radio broadcasts.
The family-friendly events will include children’s games and a brief performance by the Husker Spirit Squad and pep band. Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win football tickets, Nebraska Champions Club passes and Husker memorabilia.
Football Friday is free and open to the public. Food and drink will be available for purchase at surrounding restaurants. Parking is available for a fee at garages on Arena Drive and R Street, or at meters on adjacent streets.
Events are also planned for Sept. 6, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Oct. 4, Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. Featured guests and entertainment will be announced weekly at http://huskeralum.org/football-fridays.
